Oasis Auctions is proud to feature a collection of Francisco Zúñiga’s lithographs that represent his most compelling and recognized subjects. Come explore this collection as we honor his legacy and the visual poetry that tells stories of Mexico’s powerful and inspirational, native women.

The genesis of Francisco Zúñiga’s career began with studying sculpture in his father’s workshop in San José, Costa Rica, where he developed an early fascination with pre-Hispanic art. In his twenties, he moved to Mexico City and studied at the La Esmeralda Art Institute during the 1930s under some of Mexico’s leading modern artists. He later returned to the institute as a teacher, remaining there for more than thirty years, training other artists including Armando Amaya, and becoming one of the most influential figures in Mexican, Modern art.

Best known for his depictions of the female form, Zúñiga worked across many mediums, including bronze, onyx, alabaster, painting, drawing, and lithography. Although he did not begin creating lithographs until age sixty, he produced them extensively for the rest of his life. Over his career, his public sculptures and other works received international recognition, culminating in Mexico’s highest cultural honor, the Premio Nacional, in 1992. Today, his work is held in museums and galleries around the world.
